Prerna is the first hindi novel written by Dr Pawan Kumar Pokhariyal published by Anuradha Prakashan. It’s a philosophical story based on a hill station. All the characters in this story represent a philosophical idea. The story however is romantic and based on the life of two singers : Prerit and Ruchi. Prerit is the son of Dharohar Pratap and Sanskriti and grows up on a hill station named Palankhet. The hill station inspires Prerit with its beautiful mountains sceneries and lakes to become a singer. His teacher Gyanprakash and vidya help him develop his skills. His friend Anubhav and sister Kalpana are also instrumental in shaping his life. He meets the love of life Ruchi who is also a singer. She is trained in classical singing. They both participate in a national level duet singing competition. The story captures the mind of the reader with its intricately woven language, description of the sceneries and the underlying philosophical content.
